Dial

Original MK1 2 line dial with depth in super bright whitish silver and submariner in deep gilt. The is first style dial used in 5512 and share some characteristics in style with 5510. The top layer of lacquer has cracked throughout and has created a stunning so-called spider web effect. The dial has also turned a beautiful dark brown. The original hands match the dial nicely.

Case

The case has been lightly polished in the past, but the lugs remain even and thick. The crown guards have fortunately remained ultra sharp. The 1530 movement was just recently fully serviced by a Rolex AD and is running perfectly.

Accessories

Original box, 200m cigarette card, original guarantee paper, 1962 service papers and letter of provenance from the first owner with a photo of him wearing the watch.

Comments

1959 was a transitional year for the submariner. The 6538 and 5510 were still being produced in the early months of '59, but towards the end of the year, Rolex debuted its new submariner with crown-guards. The very first 5512 had square guards. These square guards were almost immediately replaced with the first version of the pointed guard. These pointed guards found only on case numbers 478,XXX with III.59 in the back are ultra sharp and almost resemble an eagle's beak. 5512's from 1959 are extremely rare. This watch was purchased by an authorized dealer in New Mexico directly from the first owner, who kept the original box and papers.
